Welcome to Creative Woodturning by Stephen Imerese.  Since 1999

I have been teaching myself the art of the lathe.  Though I specialize in

Segmented Woodturning, I also turn solid pieces of wood.  In addition

I even find time to devote to furniture and toy making.  I work out of my

home in East Amherst New York, where I dedicate anywhere between

30-40 hours per week to my craft.

All my life I've been working with my hands.  For the past 35 years

I've owned and operated a General Contracting company, and through

all these years I have developed a love and passion for creating with

wood.  Every one of my creations are made of pure wood with absolutely

no staining or painting - just the natural color of the wood.  In my turnings you will see many different types of

exotic woods from all over the world.

My art is constructed one piece at a time, starting at the bottom.  The segments are cut, sanded, glued

and assembled into rings.  Each ring is then turned to the proper diameter and added to the project one at a

time.  After the piece is completely assembled, it is then turned into it's final shape.  The inside is then

turned to a desired thickness.  Next is to thoroughly sand the outside and inside using countless different

grits of sandpaper.  Finally, a clear finish is added to the entire outside of the completed project.

I am currently a proud member of the American Association of Woodturners, the Western New York

Woodturners, and formally of the Fine Arts League of Buffalo.  In addition, I have had my art shown in many

exhibits and art galleries including the Albright Knox Art Gallery, the Allentown Art Festival, the Kenan

Center, the Roycroft, and the M. Waligur-Doering Gallery & Studio.  Furthermore, I have had the extreme

privilege of obtaining various awards and local recognition for my art.
